The amyloid � peptide (A�) coated gold nanoparticles were used to investigate the reversible self-assembly between fold and unfold states. A self-assembly of A� is strongly related with fibrillogenesis, which is an onset hallmark of Alzheimer's disease. Among tested different sequences of A� and various sizes of gold, only A�1-40 coated 20 nm gold colloidal nanoparticles supported a quasi reversible color change between pH 4 and 10 under the temperature range of 5 oC - 50 oC. Aiming tFigureo more stably produce an oligomer form of A�1-40, the surface of gold colloids were functionalized with nitro-, phenyl-, chloro-, and methoxy-dibenzyloxy disulfide, and molecular interactions were investigated. Functionalization of gold colloidal surface with methoxy-dibenzyloxy disulfide achieved larger amplitude in repetitive peak shift between pH 4 and 10 implying a formation of an oligomer under the reversible process.
