This project presents advancements in our effort to investigate a double-stranded helical induction from ladder-based bis-porphyrin architectures. The helical induction is based on host-guest complex formation between a chiral guest and an achiral bis-porphyrin ladder.  The coordination between the nucleophiles of the guest and Zn-centers of the bis-pophyrins have propensity to induce a helical twist between the prophyrins. Our goal is to assess the feasibility of using the bis-porphyrin twist as the means of propagating the chirality down the ladder, thus forming a double-stranded helical assembly. We will present the synthetic procedure used to prepare the porphyrin-ladder conjugate, its chiroptical spectroscopic properties, and the molecular modeling studies, via Monte Carlo searches, that complement experimental investigation. The supramolecular organization (sense and degree of the helical twist) is investigated via tandem application of Electronic and Vibrational Circular Dichroism. This work will advance research associated with the chiral inductions of double-stranded molecular architectures.
