Growth of high quality single crystals is paramount in advancing strong electron-electron correlations leading to intriguing physical properties, such as heavy fermion behavior and superconductivity. The metal flux growth technique is used to synthesize high quality single crystals of CeCo2-xMnxAl8. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbam (no. 55) and cell dimensions of a ~ 12.4840 �, b ~ 14.3920 �, c ~ 4.0260 �. Herein, the synthesis and crystal structure determination of Ce- and Yb- based intermetallics adopting the CaCo2Al8 structure type will be discussed.  Future studies are directed towards establishing structure-property relationships.
