One of the critical issues with energy harvesting is the efficiency of the energy harvesting process. Most bioelectrodes utilized in energy harvesting do a partial, 2 electron oxidation or reduction. This paper will show the importance of the utilization of enzyme cascade of biological pathways for improving the efficiency of the energy harvesting by increasing the number of electrons transferred. This project takes that work one step further to the understanding that not only is it necessary to have a cascade of enzymes, but those enzymes need to be in an efficient three-dimensional nanostructure for further improving the energy efficiency of these systems. In biological systems, the formation of efficient three-dimensional nanostructures for channeling substrate efficiently through the enzyme cascade is referred to as the formation of a �metabolon�. This research project focuses on the development of strategies for forming artificial metabolons and characterizing those metabolons in solution and at electrode surfaces.
