Substitution of the chloride ligand with other halogens (Br and I) in a square planar rhodium complex with a diarylamine-based PN(Me)P ligand has previously been shown to dramatically influence the solid-state structure of the complex. It has also been observed that the time necessary for complete conversion from the Rh(I) starting material to the Rh(III) product changes from ca. 3 hours for chlorine to ca. 24 hours for iodine. The kinetics of the N-C oxidative addition reaction have been studied in both solution and in the solid state. The activation parameters for the three complexes have been determined and the differences in the reactivities of the complexes will be discussed in light of their solid-state structures.
