The stabilization of metal-metal interactions in early-late heterobimetallic complexes by a trisphosphinoamide ligand framework has led to the discovery and formation of highly reactive complexes. Such complexes have been demonstrated to react under ambient conditions with a variety of small molecule substrates, effectively broadening the mechanistic scope of various s bond activation processes and catalytic transformations. Reactivity of these complexes has also been shown to vary depending upon the nature of phosphine and amide substituents which make up the phosphinoamide linkers in a three-fold symmetrical scaffold. Further exploration of different metal-metal combinations will be discussed.
