Small molecule reactivity at a reduced Zr/Co heterobimetallic system supported by a trisphosphinoamide ligand framework will be discussed.  Reduction of a Zr(IV)/Co(I) complex by two electrons gives access to the reactive starting material.  The reduced starting material, THFZr(MesNPiPr2)3CoN2, reacts with a variety of small molecules by way of a two electron reduction of the substrate.  The reaction with CO2 leads to cleavage of a C=O of CO2 across the metal-metal multiple bond of the Zr/Co starting material to yield (iPr2PNMes)Zr(�-O)(MesNPiPr2)CoCO as the major product.  Reduction of the CO2 activation product with Na/Hg amalgam produces an anionic Zr-oxo. The anionic Zr-oxo shows interesting solid-state metrics that change upon substituting the solvation of the cation.  These complexes and more will be discussed using NMR, x-ray crystallography and other forms of spectroscopy as characteristic support.
