Molecular-Basket Sorbents (MBS) are promising materials for CO2 capture from flue gas. One significant concern for long term usage of MBS type sorbents however is the thermal stability over multiple sorption/desorption cycles. In this work, we have studied and measured the different deactivation mechanisms for MBS sorbents which may include polymer loss, amide formation and oxidation, and have subsequently improved their thermal stabilities.  Taking steps such as altering the molecular weight of PEI incorporated or addition of organic diacids have improved the thermal stability of the sorbents at the cost of an initial capacity penalty.  Accepting initial capacity penalties of 10-30% (depending upon conditions) has reduced the capacity lost per cycle from about 3.5% to under 1% capacity lost per cycle.
