A versatile synthetic design for generating a series of hexacarboxylic acid resorcin[4]arene biscavitands with different linkers varying in flexibility will be reported. Recognition of molecules has important applications in medicine and toxic remediation. Resorcin[4]arene cavitands, molecular containers with well-defined dimensions, are compounds of interest for these applications. Current studies are focused on tailoring resorcin[4]arene biscavitands to form selective electrostatic interactions through self-assembled capsules or oligomers based on the linker. The analysis of interactions involving the conformational control of biscavitands through NMR binding studies will be presented.
