Since the 19th century scientists have known that salts dramatically affect the way proteins interact with water. Although the �Hofmeister Effect� is well established, the exact molecular mechanisms that underpin this phenomenon remain unclear. We will describe our research, which utilizes isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), to elucidate the manner in which chaotropic and kosmotropic anion salts influence the binding of guests to a concave host.
