?-Extended porphyrins are organic structural motifs of great interest. The design and synthesis of ?-extended porphyrins has remained challenging due to the limited synthetic and subsequent functionalization methods. Recently, a concise method has been developed by our group to introduce alkenyl groups to benzoporphyrin periphery in one pot through the vicinal Heck reaction, 6-? electrocyclization and subsequent aromatization. This method opened a door to access a number of ?-extended porphyrins. A fully cross-conjugated porphyrin dimerhas been synthesized and characterized.  It is remarkable that this �, �'-fused porphyrin dimer has very high solubility in most of the organic solvents and showed interesting bathochromic shift of the absorption on UV-vis spectrum. A series of unsymmetrical porphyrin dimers have also been synthesized and displayed interesting UV-vis spectra through electron communication between two different porphyrin rings.
