Two ionic triphenyltin complexes (1  and 2 ) were obtained when two dicarboxylic (oxalic and malonic) acids were mixed with tripenyltin hydroxide in the presence of di-isobutylylamine. Their structures have been characterized by IR and multi-nuclear (1H, 13C, 119Sn) NMR spectroscopies. Coordination difference was observed between oxalate and malonate derivatives. The coordination assignments of the tin atoms in the two triphenyltin complexes are confirmed by X-ray crystallographic studies. In the solid state, oxalate complex 1  consists of a di-isobutylammonium cation and a oxalatotriphenylstannate anion, the tin atom in the complex is five coordinate with a cis-trigonal-bipyramid (TBP) geometry around tin atom to form a monomeric structure. While the malonate in complex 2  is served as a bridging bidentate ligand to form a polymeric tri-nuclear triphenyltin complex; all tin atoms in the complex adopt trans-bipyramidal geometry with three phenyl group in the equiorial plane and two O atoms in the axial positions. Significant inter- and intramolecular hydogen bondings are also observed in both complexes.
