Phthalocyanines are extensively used in various technological applications, including molecular electronics, photovoltaics, and photodynamic therapy, and also as  photocatalysts, because of their favorable electronic structure and highly tunable absorption spectra. Octabutoxy substituted Ni(II) phthalocyanine is reported to have a relatively long lived 3LMCT state, an essential characteristic for efficient electron transfer in photocatalysis. This work is focused on the development of a newly emerging vibrational spectroscopy namely, femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy and its application to the characterization of photoexcited states of Ni(II) phthalocyanines at the level of vibrational structure, on ultrafast time scales.
