Understanding the kinetics of dye adsorption to TiO2 is crucial for designing Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells with enhanced efficiency.  Others have recently demonstrated the applications of QCM-D to show in-situ dye adsorption on flat TiO2 surfaces.  In this work, we present a detailed analysis dye adsorption to mesoporous TiO2 films. Specifically, we investigate the effects of porosity on the extent of adsorption by correlating frequency changes to mass uptake.  QCM-D provides adsorption measurements in real time and therefore allows one to determine the kinetics of the process.
