Nanofibers have interesting characteristics such as large surface area to volume ratio, flexibility, and superior mechanical performance. As a result, these fibers are used in many important applications such as drug delivery systems. The most efficient technique for preparing nanofibers is electrospinning. Nanofibers consisting of poly-lactic acid (PLA), poly(lactide-co-glycide) (PLGA) and poly(ethylene vinyl acetate) (PEVA) with silver and diamond nanoparticles were prepared and characterized using an optical as well as a scanning electron microscope (SEM). By varying the concentration, voltage, flow rate, and distance between the needle tip and collector plate of the precursor solutions, favorable nanofibers were obtained. PLA and PLGA nanofibers are biocompatible, making electrospinning with inert nanoparticles an ideal method of delivery for drugs to target cells. As a result, drugs are now able to be released to target cells controllably which decreases side effects. This provides an economic benefit in drug synthesis and for the consumer.
