Nucleus Independent Chemical Shifts (NICS) calculations have shown that changing the point of attachment of the phenyl substituent affects the antiaromaticity of the bis-indenylidene dications, 1  -3  . In these species, the position of the phenyl substituent and the position of coupling of the indenyl ring system affects the delocalization pattern and therefore the antiaromaticity of the dications. Spectra of 1  and 2  will be described and the synthesis of the precursors to 1-3 .
