Pyroglutamate derivatives can be used as a chiral template in a variety of synthetic applications. Previous methods of synthesizing pyroglutamate derivatives directly from L-glutamic acid require a complicated multiple step synthesis.  In our study, we have constructed a shorter synthetic method that converts L-glutamic acid into pyroglutamate esters using small chained alcohols by microwave heating.
