1,2,5-Oxadiazole-2-oxides, also known as furoxans, have shown to release nitric oxide in the presence of thiol cofactors. Fuxoran derivatives have also been seen to serve therapeutically as nitric oxide generators in vivo.  In this presentation, the results from the synthesis of various substituted dibenzoylfuroxans derivatives from acetophenones by nitration will be presented.
