Synthetic studies on the C1-C15 fragment of the complex macrolide sorangicin A will be presented. Key steps include dihydropyran construction via Achmatowicz rearrangement and highly selective allylation of a bicyclic acetal. Efforts aimed at formation of the trisubstituted C7-C8 alkene will also be described.
