Face-capped metal�organic capsules have found a wide range of uses.  Efficient encapsulation relies on the ability of ligands to close off the void of the capsule.  The shape of metal�organic capsule is determined in part by the shape of the ligand.  Thus, triangular ligands such as tri(aminophenyl)benzene gives rise to tetrahedral capsules and square planar ligands such as tetra(aminophenyl)porphyrin give rise to cubic capsules.   Pentagonal ligands are harder to come by.  In this work we will explore C5 symmetric ligands based on ferrocene derivatives.
