Based on silsesquioxanes (SSO) derived from the hydrolytic condensation of (3-methacrylpropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPMS) and titanium tetrabutoxide (TTB), single-layer hybrid films were prepared using the sol-gel process. Nanoindentation and nanoscratch tests were carried out to study the influence of different amounts of TTB in the hybrid films on testing profiles. The film containing an adequate  mount of TTB (15 wt-%) was found to possess the best elasto�plastic behavior based on the hardness and elastic modulus profiles, as well as the best plastic deformation, elastic recovery, scratch resistance and stronger adhesion shown in the scratch�testing profiles in the three regions, including the surface, the residual depth and the fluctuation regions. That makes it suitable and more effective as a protective coating. A comparison with the two-layer (3-glacildoxypropyl)-SSO/TTB film was discussed.
