Doped carbon materials have gained a lot of attention recently due to their wide array of applications including their use in dye degradation, energy conversion and storage, electrocatalysis, sensors and electronics. Our method of synthesis involves a novel microwave assisted process, which is easy, rapid and economical. No inert or reducing gas is employed during the synthetic process. Tannins, a renewable resource material was chosen as the carbon source, polyphosphoric acid was utilized as the P (phosphorous) source and silicone oil was the Si (silicon) source. The method of synthesis and characterization results will be presented. Results obtained from SEM, BET, XRD, XPS and Raman spectroscopy will be presented. The materials' effectiveness in dye degradation studies will be presented.
