A convergent synthesis of the welwitindolinone alkaloids N-methyl welwitinolinone B isothiocyante and its naturally occuring epimer will be presented. Key carbon-carbon bond forming reactions include the synthesis of tetrasubstituted alkenes through Suzuki cross-coupling and a sterically demanding type 2 intramolecular Diels�Alder reaction. A regio- and stereoselective chlorination sets the secondary halide stereocenter found in the natural products.
