Compounds that can be used as plasticizers, supersurfactants, and additives for health care products were produced from derivatives of acetone. The compounds are derivatives of hydroxyacetone, including dimers of both 1-hydroxyacetone and 1,3-dihydroxyacetone. The newly created molecules were designed to allow further modification to affect additional properties. Tensile and elongation data using the acetone based derivatives with polyvinyl chloride and with polyvinyl butyraldehyde were collected.
