Our recent studies of the dissociative photodetachment (DPD) of HOCO-  and DOCO-  have given significant experimental insight into the tunneling from the HOCO radical well to produce H + CO2 products. The isotopically resolved data on the product branching fractions also contains important information concerning the entrance channel, OH + CO, as well. In particular, for HOCO, an energetic range of significant competition between OH + CO and H + CO2 product channels is observed that is absent for DOCO. The interpretation of this observation in terms of the zero point energies of the various transition states and the possible role of isomerization from the predominant cis-HOCO radical to trans-HOCO prior to dissociation will be discussed in the context of recent theoretical studies of this system.
