Chiral dirhodium carboxylate Rh2(S-PTAD)4 or Rh2(S-PTTL)4 efficiently catalyses asymmetric three component coupling reaction of a-diazophosphonates, anilines and electron-deficient aldehydes to give a-amino-�-hydroxyphosphonates in good to high yields and with good to high enantioselectivities. The high level of enantiocontrol provides evidence for the intermediacy of metal-bound ammonium ylide in the product forming step.
