Herein we disclose a highly efficient asymmetric hetero-Diels-Alder reaction covering of a very broad range of a-keto esters with Danishefsky's diene, catalyzed by a calcium 1-naphthyl-BINOL phosphate. We also report the first example of a highly enantioselective HDA reaction of isatins using the same versatile catalytic system Figure 1. <img src='https://acs-archive-assets2.s3.amazonaws.com/coll2011/uploads/85391_acv_frequency_response.jpg' alt='' /> . Further more, this catalytic system can be applied in a highly enantioselective Mukaiyama-Aldol reaction.
