The catalytic enantioselective allylation of carbonyls and imines is an area that has witnessed intense interest in recent years. While several methods have emerged affording high selectivity, most suffer from limited substrate scope, stoichimetric chirality induction and conditions that are less environmentally benign. We have developed new allylation methodology utilizing indium or bismuth reagents and catalysts that can be carried out in biorenewable solvent. This has a potential for significant impacts in sustainable chemistry. Recent advances in allylation of ketones and ketimines will be presented. High enantioselectivity has been achieved utilizing chiral Lewis acid complexes with phenylpyridine bisoxazoline ligands in aqueous methanol or ethanol solvents.
