One of the most pressing issues against effectively reclaiming cellulosic furnishes within a paper recycle plant is the insidious presence of waxy particles known as 'stickies.'  These particles reduce paper runnability by compromising the homogeneity of the paper mat, clinging to the moveable parts of the paper machine, felt, and nip presses, and generally reducing the efficiency of recycling.  They must be removed so that paper recycling is possible. Our work attempts to provide a biomaterial-based solution to this issue by examining the ability of soy proteins to adsorb to the hydrophobes and effectively neutralize them.
