Our research objective is to elucidate the atomic-scale mechanisms of interfacial energy transfer and reaction dynamics that govern collisions of O3 on unsaturated organic surfaces. Our approach combines molecular beam scattering techniques, which provide control over the translational energy of the impinging molecules, with self-assembled monolayers, which serve as model systems that offer control over the surface structure and functionality. Results from this work reveal that ozone reactions transition from a Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism to a direct reaction at elevated translational energies.
