Synthesis gas produced from carbon dioxide reforming of methane (CDR) is an attractive and challenging item for various chemical utilizations of green house gases such as methane and carbon dioxide. Ni-based catalysts are more economical than noble metals. Even though Ni-based catalysts show high activity in the initial stage of CDR, they easily deactivate due to carbon formation and/or sintering of Ni metal under severe reaction conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a highly active and stable catalyst with coke-resistance under severe conditions in CDR. Co-precipitated Ni-Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 catalyst exhibited the highest activity as well as stability among supported Ni catalysts for CDR in the literature. In this study, we have designed a co-precipitated Ni-MgO-Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 catalyst for CDR and have found that this catalyst showed much higher stability than Ni-Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 at a high GHSV.
