The performance of adsorption and photocatalysis systems and a combination of the two at optimal conditions were studied to evaluate their capabilities in removing the COD content of cooking condensate vapor from poultry process wastewater. Removal of organic content via adsorption using flyash or feather as chicken by-products adsorbents and heterogeneous photocatalysis with TiO2 were used to degrade COD content from aqueous solutions. Effects of various experimental parameters have been investigated using a batch adsorption and photocatalysis techniques like pH of solution, initial concentration of the condensed vapor, amount of adsorbent, temperature, contact time and TiO2 concentration to obtain information on treating effluent by response surface methodology. The sorption and photodegradation data were correlated with adsorption isotherm and kinetics models respectively.
