Enzymatic catalysis utilizing enzymes has long been of great interest to chemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries. However, the use of enzymes for industrial applications is often handicapped by their low operational stability, difficult recovery, and lack of reusability under operational conditions. Immobilization of enzymes on solid supports can enhance enzyme stability as well as facilitate separation and recovery for reuse while maintaining activity and selectivity. Although mesoporous silica materials have been extensively explored in this content, they suffer from leaching of the immobilized enzyme during the reaction process. In comparison, mesoporous MOFs (mesoMOFs) that merit high surface areas and pore walls composed of functional organic groups could afford specific interactions with enzyme molecules thus avoiding leaching. We demonstrated the successful immobilization of a series of enzymes into mesoMOFs, and the resulting enzymes@mesoMOFs exhibited superior enzymatic performances compared to the mesoporous silica counterparts.  These studies make mesoMOFs hold the promise to be developed as a new type of host matrix materials to immobilize various enzymes for enzymatic catalysis applications.
