The synthesis of a series of compounds of the form trans-M2(TiPB)2L2 where M2 = Mo2 or W2, TiPB = 2,4,6-triisopropyl benzoate, and L = a metal carbonyl fragment shown below will be described.  Selected molecules have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography and their electronic structures have been examined by calculations employing density functional theory.  The new complexes have been characterized by a variety of electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques.  Particular attention has been given to their photophysical properties which have been studied by femto- and nanosecond transient absorption and infrared spectroscopy.
