High-field/frequency powder EPR studies were carried out on a series of six-coordinate Ni(II) complexes of the formula: Ni(9-Accm)2(L)x, where L is a monodentate or bidentate pyridyl based ligand that occupies cis-coordination sites or trans-coordination sites. The EPR data clearly show how the symmetry of a complex, i.e. cis or trans coordination environments, and lattice dimensionality, impact on the magnitude of axial and transverse zero-field splitting parameters.
