The Petroleum Research Fund is an endowed fund administered by the Office of Research Grants of the American Chemical Society.  ACS PRF was created to support �advanced scientific education and fundamental research in the petroleum field,� and has provided research grants since 1954.  Principal Investigators at academic institutions doing petroleum-relevant research in chemistry, geosciences, chemical and petroleum engineering, and materials science have been supported by ACS PRF funding.  Distinctive attributes of the ACS PRF are support of new investigators in their first three years of independent research: New investigators in doctoral degree-granting departments may apply for Doctoral New Investigator research grants; those in non-doctoral departments are eligible for Undergraduate New Investigator research grants.  In addition, ACS PRF has designated funding for established faculty in departments which do not offer the doctoral degree, through the Undergraduate Research grant program.
