Porous organic polymers (POPs) are highly porous cross-linked networks that are builtfrom multitopic organic struts.  Similar to metal-organic frameworks, the topology and functionalities of POPs can be readily modified through pre- and post-synthesis methods to improve their host-guest interactions in gas storage/separations and catalysis.  From a practical perspective, the organic linkages in POPs can be engineered to afford both excellent chemical (e.g., against acids and bases) and environmental (i.e., temperature and pressure) stabilities, appealing features for use as supports for heterogeneous catalysis.  This presentation will focus on the development of POPs that were modified to support well-defined Ta(V) species.  Characterization of the metallated materials will be presented as well as preliminary results on their reactivity toward small molecules.
