The world of electroactive polymers combines the great variety of chemical structure with the ideas of electronic motion. In this talk, we will examine some structure/function relationships that depend on non- covalent ordering. These extend from polymeric molecular components to the functioning of an intact organic bulk heterojunction device. Important control parameters (molecular structure, charge density, optical excitation, relaxation, device thickness and others) will be stressed, and some directions for improved device capability suggested. Noncovalent interactions are critical to the functioning, as we shall see. A second example, molecular capacitance, will also be discussed.
