While symmetrically substituted poly(ferrocenylsilanes) (R = R'= Me, Et, n-Pr, etc.) are semi-crystalline,1 all hitherto known asymmetrically substituted poly(ferrocenylsilanes) are amorphous at room temperature, with the exception of poly(ferrocenylmethylsilane) with Me and H groups at silicon (see structure below).2 This contribution presents the detailed structural and morphological characterization of atactic, semi-crystalline poly(ferrocenylmethylsilane). The synthesis of diblock copolymers with a poly(ferrocenylmethylsilane) block yields monodisperse ribbon-like micelles in a non-polar solvent.
