Typical porous Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are constructed from the association of divalent cations and polycarboxylates (phosphonates or azolates). This is often due to the easier control of their solution chemistry that affords a better control of the crystallisation process. Our group has reported within the past decade series of new porous and stable MOFs based on tri- or tetravalent non toxic transition metals (Fe, Ti, Zr) , exhibiting rigid micro- or meso-porous frameworks or highly flexible structures, functionalized or not. We will provide here a concise review of the different structures and features, as well as a selection of their most interesting properties in various domains such as separation, physical properties or biomedicine.
