An ideal solid state proton conductor would offer a facile proton transfer pathway in a robust framework. MOFs are intriguing candidates for this challenge as they can be viewed as intermediate to ubiquitous proton conductors such as inorganic solid acids and organic polymers. There are many challenges for such a class of materials and, at a basic design level, the crystalline nature of MOFs is invaluable. This presentation will concern our recent efforts to augment stability and performance of proton conducting MOFs and includes results on water stable frameworks and a MOF that conducts protons over 10-2 Scm-1.
