In this work nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) produced from different types of wood were investigated. The fibrils were liberated from the fibre wall by performing an enzymatic pre-treatment followed by mechanical treatments. Parameters of the untreated fibers and the NFC treated fiber suspensions were studied. It was found that by liberating the fibrils from the fiber wall the degree of polymerisation was largely decreased for all samples. On the other hand a clear difference between the samples was found when comparing nanofibril yield, which depended on hemicellulose content and charge density. The yield also had a large influence on the mechanical properties on films produced by vacuum filtrating NFC suspensions.
