New palladium hydride complexes supported by a bisphosphinite pincer ligand have been synthesized and characterized. With terminal alkynes they are protonated to produce corresponding alkynyl complexes. In contrast, internal alkynes undergo insertion into the palladium hydrogen bond. Interestingly the stereochemistry of the insertion products varies with the electronic nature of the alkynes. Dependence of the reactivity on the steric environment of the complexes has also been observed.
