The bulk of organocuprate reactions have utilized lithio organocuprates, but magnesio organocuprates are more amenable to catalytic reactions. The reactivity of Grignard derived cuprates will be compared with lithio reagents in their reactions with several substrates including a,�-unsaturated enones, propargyl and allyl halides, and alkyl tosylates and triflates using rapid injection NMR at low temperatures. Particular care has been taken to avoid insoluble species, a common concern when magnesium salts are present.
