Shown here is an easy to use high-throughput model, grounded in thermodynamics, to calculate energy requirements to separate CO2 from flue gas using a temperature swing adsorption (TSA) process. The method uses readily available experimental data (adsorption isotherms and heat capacities) of a number of porous materials, including metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), porous polymer networks (PPNs), and state of the art technologies to predict parasitic energies. Primary focus of the calculations and results is in efficiently evaluating these materials for post-combustion carbon dioxide capture. Systematic investigation of a large number of materials has revealed trends that may guide future research in developing new materials.
