Metal-catalyzed multicomponent cycloadditions involving simple alkenes create new strategies for the rapid synthesis of a variety of valuable complex carbocycles. We have developed a general, intermolecular Ni-catalyzed multicomponent [2+2+2] cycloaddition of ene-allenes and a variety of diverse alkene components for the stereoselective preparation of complex cyclohexanoids. Simple modification of the catalyst system affords a highly chemo- and stereoselective [2+2] process. The development and substrate scope of these methods will be discussed.
