Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) fiber mats crosslinked under UV irradiation using pentaerythritol triacrylate (PETA) for polymer-gel electrolytes were prepared using an electrospinning technique. The thermal properties, morphology, and ionic conductivity of these membranes were investigated. These crosslinked fibrous membranes are up to 85% porous, are insoluble, and exhibit conductivities as high as 1 � 10-2 S/cm at room temperature. Although a high weight percent of PETA (10% w/w) is required to obtain mats with greater than 80% gel fraction, PEO samples with PETA display conductivities higher than an electrospun control of poly(vinylidene fluoride) when swollen with ethylene carbonate and dimethyl carbonate binary electrolyte solutions. This increased conductivity suggests PEO may contribute to the overall ionic conductivity.
