In an effort to synthesize new complex structures, we have targeted the Ln-Fe-Sn (Ln = lanthanide) system due to the rich complexity of previously discovered ternary intermetallic stannides, such as Yb3Rh4Sn13 and Gd117Co56Sn112.  We will present synthetic details for the single crystal growth of LnFe1-xSn2.  LnFe1-xSn2 has a plate like morphology and adopts the CeNiSi2 structure type in which the transition metal site is partially occupied.  We have grown various LnFe1-xSn2 analogs to study the relationship between rare earth size and initial stoichiometric ratios on transition metal occupancy as well as physical properties.
