The National Research Council's 2005 report �Sustainability in the Chemical Industry: Grand Challenges and Research Needs� identified producing chemicals from biomass and fuels from renewable resources as two of the grand challenges faced by the chemical industry.  Green chemistry plays an important role in meeting these challenges, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognizes excellence in green chemistry through the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards.  These awards were created to recognize and promote fundamental and innovative chemical technologies that accomplish pollution prevention through source reduction and that are useful to industry.  Numerous green chemistry technologies that yield chemicals and fuel from renewable resources have been recognized with the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award.  This presentation will highlight these award-winning technologies.
