The Chatt synthesis uses BH4- to catalyze the preparation of many group VI metal carbonyl complexes. We have modified the Chatt synthesis with polyethyleneglycol (PEG-200) resulting in new reactivity with chelating phosphine ligands (dppe, dppp). A new dimer was synthesized in minutes by combining BH4-, PEG, W(CO)6, and chelating phosphines in a microwave. The various reaction parameters, yields, product distribution, spectroscopic, and structural information will be discussed.
